Join the Civil Works Alliance as a Temporary Works Design Manager – Shape the Future of Nuclear Engineering
Are you an experienced Temporary Works professional with a passion for leading complex design projects? The Sizewell C (SZC) project offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Temporary Works Design Manager to join the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) and play a pivotal role in delivering one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.
As the Temporary Works Design Manager, you will oversee the design and delivery of all temporary works across the SZC project, ensuring the safety, functionality, and efficiency of the temporary structures required during construction. This is an opportunity to influence the development of a world-class nuclear power station and contribute to the future of clean energy in the UK.
In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for:
Establishing and managing the Temporary Works (TW) design team to deliver the civil works scope across various project sections.
Coordinating with parent companies, external suppliers, and framework partners to ensure the delivery of design work in compliance with SZC’s TW procedures.
Implementing and monitoring the temporary works design delivery to ensure it meets project requirements and technical specifications.
Managing a TW Register and collaborating with the Engineering and Assurance teams to track and report on TW delivery progress.
Leading the competency management process for TW designers to ensure compliance with SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel) and CDM (Construction, Design, and Management) regulations.
Identifying opportunities for standardising TW designs, ensuring they are effectively integrated into the design delivery process.
Working closely with the Learning and Development team to integrate temporary works into onboarding and competency training.
The Temporary Works Design Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the project is delivered to the highest safety and quality standards, and will collaborate with teams across the organisation to mitigate risk and ensure seamless execution.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
Extensive experience in Temporary Works design and implementation, particularly in major projects such as tunnelling and deep excavations.
Professional qualification in civil or structural engineering, ideally chartered status.
Practical experience in temporary works design following industry standards such as BS5975:2019.
Familiarity with CDM Regulations 2015 and risk management principles in design and construction.
Strong team management skills and the ability to coordinate resources effectively.
A proven track record in contract and budget management, as well as experience working with external suppliers and contractors.
Experience in temporary works engineering on large-scale projects, including nuclear or similarly complex infrastructure developments.
If you are a strategic thinker with a strong technical background and a passion for leading innovative projects, this is your chance to make a lasting impact on one of the UK’s most critical infrastructure projects.
