About us
Darwen Vale High School is an 11-16 academy located on the outskirts of Darwen, benefiting from excellent transport links, making it accessible to staff commuting daily from nearby towns and cities such as Bolton, Lytham, Manchester, and Preston. Originally established as Darwen Grammar School in 1884, the school underwent extensive renovations in 2012 to accommodate its growing student population.
In recent years, Darwen Vale High School has seen impressive growth, with year groups increasing from 150 to 240 students, and it is projected to expand further with an estimated enrolment of over 1,200 students within the next three years. The school is proud of its academic achievements, having consistently improved its outcomes year on year. In 2023, the school achieved its highest-ever Progress 8 score, with English Language and Mathematics results surpassing the national average at both Grade 4+ and Grade 5+.
The school has a strong Mid-Level Leadership Team, contributing to positive progress in ten subjects. Furthermore, Darwen Vale High School received a "Good" rating in its most recent Ofsted inspection, reflecting its commitment to providing quality education.
