Job Description

Interim Senior Accountant - Capital - Local Authority Client: Local Authority Location: Midlands Contract Type: Interim Day Rate: £500 - £550 per day (Inside IR35) About the Role: We are working with a prestigious local government client seeking an experienced Senior Accountant - Capital to join their Finance & Resources team on an interim basis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial health and strategic direction of a local authority by managing complex capital accounting and fixed asset processes. Key Responsibilities: Capital Accounting & Fixed Assets Management: Technical accounting for capital expenditure, capital funding, and fixed assets. Oversight of PFI schemes and associated accounting. Implementation and maintenance of a fixed asset register. Implementation of IFRS 16 (Leases). Providing technical finance advice and support to the wider organisation. Trust Accounts & Audits: Preparation of accounts for trusts associated with the council. Managing and coordinating trust audits. Process Improvement: Reviewing and enhancing accounting processes and procedures. Proactively identifying areas for improvement and implementing innovative solutions.Key Requirements: Fully qualified CCAB accountant (preferably CIPFA). A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior accounting role within a local authority. Proven expertise in managing complex capital accounting and fixed assets. Strong knowledge of IFRS 16 and PFI schemes. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
