About the Role: SEN Teaching Assistant
We are seeking a highly experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a young boy in Early Years who has very high ASD needs. Your role will be to create a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment, helping him to navigate his school day successfully.
The ideal candidate will be:
• Patient, empathetic, and resilient
• Proactive and adaptable, able to think on their feet
• Experienced in working with ASD pupils, particularly those with high needs
• Skilled in de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviours
• Able to build trust and strong relationships with the pupil and school staff

Key Responsibilities: SEN Teaching Assistant
• Provide 1:1 support for a child with high ASD needs, ensuring they can access learning in a structured way
• Use calming techniques to help regulate emotions and reduce anxieties
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents to develop and implement personalised strategies
• Use visual aids, sensory tools, and structured routines to support learning
• Encourage social interaction, communication, and independence in a gentle, supportive way
Application Requirements: SEN Teaching Assistant
• Experience working with children with ASD, particularly those with high needs
• A relevant SEN qualification or significant experience in a similar role
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication strategies (desirable)
• A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
• A DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
