Background Information
Our client is a metal foundry & casting business in the beautiful Somerset area that is going through massive growth.
The Quality Manager will report directly into the MD.
Role and Responsibilities
The responsibilities within this role focus on the maintenance and further development of the company Quality Management System, alongside ensuring that all certification commitments are upheld. This includes ISO 9001 and Lloyds Register accreditation for the Marine sector.
Day to day activities will include all production processes and inspection checks, including some technical aspects, surrounding the products and services supplied to the existing customer base. This role will also be integral to New Product Introduction and part control planning, as defined by the company’s strategic framework.
This role will oversee 3 staff: Quality Engineer, New Products Technician and a Foundry Technician.
Key responsibilities will include:
Provision of engineering services to support all production processes in achieving the required standards expected by customers; quality, delivery, cost and service
Setting, controlling, management and reviewing department KPIs, audit schedules and calibration schedules.
Supporting the implementation of new products and associated processes in the foundry facilitating a continuous improvement cycle through standard procedures
Developing existing, and creating new production statistical process controls, which are standardised and controlled through the use of tools such as PFMEA’s, Control Plans, SOP’s, CAPA’s and 8D
Providing support to the QE with internal audits to ensure that process controls are functioning as required
Maintenance and further development of the company's Quality Management System
Co-ordinating with technical and production personnel to execute SPC
Supporting Health, Safety and Environmental, 5S, Teamworking.
High-level analysis of internal scrap and customer returns, implementing focus points based on Pareto data.
Participation in quality, production, and senior management meetings and presenting data and actions on behalf of the quality department
Ensure that the quality department and wider foundry are producing a product that meets customer-defined specifications
Communication with customers and supporting issue resolution where required
Role-specific experience requirements:
The person appointed to the role of Quality and Process Engineer will need to have the following experience:
Qualification in an Engineering discipline, ideally degree level, but others will be considered.
Use of inspect and test equipment, including measuring and laboratory equipment.
Previous management experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally foundry or machinist
Ability to read technical drawings
Experience in Quality Management Systems and ISO 9001
Competent in using IT and software systems; Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP systems CAD would be advantageous
Lean / Six Sigma experience or qualifications would be advantageous
