About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Power Risk Engineer to join a dynamic team supporting the insurance placement of power industry assets. This role involves conducting risk engineering surveys, evaluating operational power plants, and reviewing new power projects to provide expert risk assessments.
This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background in the power industry who is keen to apply their expertise in risk management and loss prevention strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Engineering Surveys
Conduct on-site risk surveys (typically 2–3 days) at power plants, engaging with key management and operational teams.
Produce comprehensive engineering reports detailing:
Site operations overview
Analysis of loss prevention and mitigation features
Risk ranking and improvement recommendations
Property damage estimations using bespoke modelling software
Risk Assessments & Project Reviews
Assess risks for operational power plants and provide expert evaluations of new projects.
Support power broking teams in placing risks in international insurance markets.
Engineering & Risk Management
Develop and manage risk assessment methodologies within the Engineering Management System.
Provide technical expertise on power industry technologies, construction management, and project execution.
Skills & Experience Required
Industry Expertise
Minimum 8 years’ experience in operations, maintenance, or technical functions within the power sector (operator or consultancy).
Strong understanding of power generation technologies, construction methods, and project management.
Experience in risk-based decision-making and loss prevention strategies.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in risk assessment and process modelling software.
IT literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (or equivalent).
Experience with technical simulation packages for risk assessment is beneficial.
Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Chartership is highly advantageous).
Communication & Client Management
Ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
Strong written and verbal communication skills at all organisational levels.
Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
Additional Requirements
Travel: Candidates must be willing to travel internationally for 70–90 days per year as part of their role.
