Pastoral Assistant - Temp to Perm Role - Full-time Medway (£25,183 to £31,067 Full time Equivalent) An inclusive and supportive secondary special school is looking for an experienced and dedicated Pastoral Assistant to join its team. The school is committed to ensuring that all students receive the necessary support to help shape their futures. If you are passionate about working with young people and helping them succeed, this could be the perfect role for you. Role Purpose The primary focus of this role is to promote student welfare and academic progress, ensuring their wellbeing and safeguarding are prioritised. The successful candidate will also support positive behaviour management, encouraging learners to take responsibility for their choices. Key Responsibilities Assist the Head of Welfare in addressing students' personal and social needs. Provide one-to-one pastoral support when required. Encourage and maintain positive behaviour for learning throughout the school. Work closely with the SENCo, teaching staff, and families to remove social and emotional barriers to learning. Offer guidance to families, directing them to local support services as needed. Support behaviour management in various settings, including classrooms, the playground, and the pastoral room. Collaborate with the Attendance Lead to promote good attendance and punctuality among students. Foster a strong school community ethos, supporting student-led initiatives such as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. Build relationships with local organisations and external partners to enhance student support. As a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), support the Safeguarding Lead in ensuring student safety. Manage and respond to safeguarding concerns efficiently, working closely with external agencies such as Social Services and Educational Psychologists. Contribute to multi-agency assessments and intervention plans. What We're Looking For Experience working with children or young people with SEND. Strong communication skills, enabling effective engagement with students, staff, families, and external professionals. Ability to manage workload efficiently and prioritise tasks effectively. A compassionate and patient approach, with a genuine commitment to student wellbeing. Awareness of local and national support services available to schools and families. Knowledge of relevant safeguarding, attendance, and data protection legislation.Requirements: Willingness to travel up to an hour to work. Legal right to work in the UK. Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs is advantageous. Ability to provide personal care support, including toileting and feeding, as needed. Strong communication skills, patience, flexibility, and a positive approach. Willingness to undergo necessary background checks and obtain clearances.
