We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.
We are looking for a Head of Product Support, Propositions and Strategic Partnerships who will develop winning customer support propositions across resource materials, digital services, Professional Development and publishing, to drive OCR forward with winning products and services for the future.
About the role
This role is crucial to the future commercial success of OCR qualifications in key markets. Competitive support that stands out is an essential differentiating factor, and this role is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategy to deliver this support. A key activity is to develop and maintain a deep understanding of the problems and needs facing customers of OCR qualifications across General and Vocational qualifications, and to prioritise which of these needs to solve to have the greatest commercial impact.
This role understands and exploits the full breadth of capabilities that UK Education and International Publishing has available – across print materials, digital services, Professional Development training and textbook/digital publishing. They will lead efforts across the organisation to develop new products and services that will directly raise revenue, and boost take-up of OCR qualifications, by meeting customer needs in new ways.
This role holds the key to unlocking new opportunities and navigating potential challenges, making it a crucial cornerstone of OCR's business growth and is an exciting opportunity for a customer focused and ambitious person with relevant assessment, publishing and educational experience looking to build their career in a dynamic team.
What you'll be doing:
* Shaping and defining a strategy for support propositions heading into reform, ensuring it is scalable and deliverable within budgetary and capacity structure.
* Shaping and defining customer value propositions that drive uptake of OCR qualifications.
* Shaping a strategy for how we best support critical market segments.
* Shaping and defining value propositions for new products and services that will create new revenue streams.
* Leading on discrete customer research projects to create insight, analysing outputs to underpin support propositions, setting out the priorities for internal resource and budget spend.
* Lobbying for, and implementing, change to existing processes.
* Fostering a deep, current knowledge of competitor support offers and activities, and trends in teaching and learning, assessment practice, educational technology, and UK educational publishing, and use this knowledge to inform strategic planning and specific proposition development.
* Developing a strategy for working with the International publishing team that sets out the principles of when there should be inhouse publishing support available to customers.
* Implementing and monitoring an open endorsement model that supports partnership with current and new publishers and continued choice for UK Education customers.
* Creating a regulatory compliance strategy that balances commerciality, customer support and regulation within customer value propositions.
* Considering ad hoc/in-year requests for Product Support materials, digital services and professional development and approved based on commercial impact. Prioritise available budget for these requests and ensure they form part of the delivery team's roadmap.
* Leading and developing the shape and performance of your team in line with CUPA values and leadership competencies, to achieve objectives, routinely reviewing the structure and processes of the team to ensure optimal efficiency and value, and developing a product management mindset.
This role manages a team that are predominantly based in the Coventry office so will be expected to travel to that office on a regular basis of no less than once a fortnight.
About you
What we're looking for:
* A high level of product management expertise in an awarding organisation and/or the educational publishing industry, with experience of leading and implementing strategy that drives commercial success.
* Experience of commissioning education products and digital services based on managing or undertaking market research and /or customer research, with the ability to communicate with customers to gain insights and identify the needs of a range of customer segments.
* Demonstrable commercial mindset and strong business acumen, including financial analysis and numeracy skills, the ability to make informed decisions to maximize commercial returns and the ability to identify emerging competitors and potential threats.
* Knowledge of the UK Education system at a strategic level and an understanding of the educational publishing landscape, including digital, in order to develop complex strategic propositions that take account of multiple customer needs and internal stakeholder perspectives.
* Experience of leading experienced professionals and building high performing teams and working cultures.
