Electrical Engineer
Location: Remote/Home Based
The Electrical Engineer role: OPA are currently looking to appoint a new Electrical Engineer. In this standalone role you will act as the Technical Authority/ Subject Matter Expert for the OPA in respect of all electrical activities on the assets it manages, and ensure they are safe, reliable, robust, and conform to company and Regulatory Policy. The Electrical engineer shall also support the delivery of electrical engineering works by the project engineering teams to specification, on time and within budget.
With responsibility for a number of activities supporting projects, engineering works and supporting electrical maintenance delivery at any one time, the job entails supporting professional contract electrical engineers who conduct engineering activities on the assets that OPA manage. There will be a need to build strong credible working relationships with all internal stakeholders and in particular HSEQ, other Engineering colleagues, as well as with external stakeholders including HSE, EA/SEPA and our MOD Sponsors.
Some occasional travel with overnight stays will be required, therefore a full (preferably clean) driving licence is essential for this role.
Electrical Engineer Responsibilities include;
* Responsibility for providing the maintenance processes, procedures and technical guidance for all Electrical systems and equipment associated with OPA assets. Ensuring the systems and equipment are safe, reliable, robust and conform with company and Regulatory policy,
* Development and review of policies, strategies, processes, and performance measurement frameworks in relation to Maintenance Management for electrical applications. This includes the promotion and application of best practice techniques,
* Producing and managing maintenance task instructions in accordance with industry best practice and manufacturers recommendations to ensure the safe operation of all electrical apparatus and installations across the OPA assets,
* Take technical responsibility for the maintenance and operation of high voltage electrical equipment located within the OPA site’s electrical distribution systems,
* Act as the OPA technical authority providing leadership and guidance on all electrical activities for OPA senior management, other OPA engineering disciplines, specialist consultants, and service/material supply chain for assets operated and managed by OPA,
* Act as the Senior Authorised Electrical Person for the OPA and have the authority to carry out switching operations on the H.V. Distribution and Main L.V. Distribution Systems. Function as lead authority around electrical appointments and compliance to the OPA Electrical Safety Rules,
* Identify continuous improvement work on existing infrastructure, where possible introduce new technologies to aid process performance, develop project implementation strategies, prepare capital and revenue expenditure budgets.
* Produce/ support user requirement specifications/ briefs for design partners for concept, FEED and detailed design level for Electrical systems and equipment. Assist others disciplines with Electrical aspects as required.
* Act as the technical lead on all electrical regulatory issues, liaise with the Regulatory bodies, including HSE and Environment Agency (SEPA in Scotland), review and make recommendations on health, safety and environmental regulations and strategies to ensure compliance,
* Be on OPA’s Duty Manager rota.
The Electrical Engineer Candidate: You must be qualified in an Electrical engineering discipline, ideally Chartered Engineer status, with a strong background in electrical maintenance and good experience or knowledge in electrical projects and design, preferably within a COMAH regulated industry/operation.
You must be able to demonstrate a very strong knowledge of high voltage system operation and safe working practices and experience of Electrical engineering design and installations in hazardous area process plant environments.
Candidates should have an in-depth knowledge of legislation relating to ATEX & BS EN (phone number removed),
BS 7671, COMAH, CDM and have a basic understanding of BS EN 61508. In addition, candidates should be aware of the process safety leadership group (PSLG) requirements for electrical installations
