Job Description

A leading and reputable law firm in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Duty Solicitor to join their Criminal Defence team. About the Firm Our client is a well-established law firm with a strong reputation in the legal community. The Role As a Duty Solicitor, you will be a key part of the Criminal Defence team, representing clients during some of the most critical moments of their lives. This role requires dedication, a proactive approach, and the ability to provide expert legal advice and advocacy. Key Responsibilities * Represent and advise clients detained at police stations under the Duty Solicitor Scheme. * Attend Magistrates’ Courts to advocate on behalf of clients during hearings. * Handle a wide range of criminal cases, from initial advice to resolution, ensuring the best possible outcomes for clients. * Prepare legal documents, including briefs, applications, and client statements. * Liaise with the police, CPS, courts, and other professionals to ensure effective case management. * Keep accurate and detailed records of all cases, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. * Stay updated on developments in criminal law and court procedures to provide informed and accurate advice. * Participate in an out-of-hours rota to attend police station call-outs when required. What We’re Looking For * Qualified Solicitor with Duty Solicitor accreditation under the Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS). * Strong experience in criminal law, with a proven track record of advocacy in Magistrates’ Courts and police station representation. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients. * Strong organisational skills, capable of managing a diverse caseload effectively. * A team player who is also self-motivated and able to work independently. * Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and upholding the highest professional standards.
