Key skills In addition to your qualifications, as a Band 5 Oncology Nurse, you will have: quick thinking abilities patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations excellent attention to detail a methodical approach to tasks excellent timekeeping the ability to work well and under pressure empathy and understanding a flexible attitude a desire to learn and improve active listening skills the ability to use a computer competentlyMain Duties/Responsibilities As a Band 5 Oncology Nurse, you will: Provide constant monitoring and care for patients in a seriously ill or unstable condition. Assess and prioritise patient requirements, delegating effectively to others. Recognise, review and report patient's condition and any changes to it to senior members of staff within the multidisciplinary team. Adhere to the NMC professional Code of Conduct. Assess patients who have presented side effects due to treatment, as well as assessing patients pre-, during and post-chemotherapy. Manage both the symptoms of a patient's disease and the side effects of various cancer treatments. Evaluate each patient and initiate appropriate cares. This may involve administering drugs or arranging for the patient to see the oncologist. Understand pathology results and their implications and have an in-depth knowledge of the expected side effects of cancer treatments. Hold a deep understanding of nausea, vomiting and fatigue, as these are three of the most common side effects of cancer treatments, especially chemotherapy. Take blood/fit a canula. Listen to the patient, assessing their understanding of the disease and its process as well as the patient's emotional state.Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications Essential Be a registered nurse. At least 2 years post-graduate experience. 6 months recent NHS experience within the last 3 years. You will need to pass an enhanced background check.
