Job Description

Position: School Attendance Officer Systems: SIMS or Arbor Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 16:00 SUBJECT TO ENHANCED DBS My client, a well-respected school south of Preston, is looking to recruit a self starting attendance officer on a temporary to possible perm basis. Key Responsibilities will include: * Daily Monitoring: Accurately monitor pupil attendance and lateness records. * Follow-Up: Follow up on pupil absences and lateness via In-touch, telephone, or other means, with guidance from relevant colleagues, making appropriate referrals. * Late Pupils: Check on late pupils and ensure all unexplained absences are accounted for. * Communication: Seek reasons for absences via telephone or letter home if required. * Register Accuracy: Check the accuracy and correct coding on registers. * Policy Adherence: Follow the Attendance policy and send out letters as required. * Support Identification: Identify individuals and/or groups of pupils needing additional support to improve attendance and punctuality. * Intervention Strategies: Implement intervention strategies to address poor attendance and celebrate excellent attendance, adapting them as appropriate. * Sanctions: Initiate and follow through appropriate sanctions in liaison with relevant colleagues and other professionals, including fines and court action. * Meetings: Attend follow-up meetings and other relevant meetings with parents/carers and/or other professionals to provide information, offer support, and seek ways to improve individual attendance and punctuality. * Liaison: Liaise with outside agencies, parents/carers, social services, other schools, and organizations regarding pupil attendance and punctuality. * Relationship Building: Establish and maintain good relationships with all pupils, parents/carers, colleagues, and other professionals. * Welfare Reporting: Report any welfare and/or child protection concerns as per school policies and procedures. * Statistical Returns: Complete accurate statistical returns regarding pupil attendance and punctuality as required by the school, local authority, and DfE. * Meeting Attendance: Attend relevant school meetings and any other meetings associated with this role. * Additional Duties: Perform any other reasonable duties as required by the Headteacher.
