Job Description

Assistant Transport Manager   Location: Letchworth Salary: £28,000 - £35,000 DOE Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Career Progression: Excellent growth opportunities within a rapidly expanding company   We are looking for an Assistant Transport Manager to support the Transport Manager in overseeing daily transport operations. This role is key to ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance within the department while offering strong career progression in a growing business.   Key Responsibilities: Operational Oversight: Support the smooth running of transport operations, ensuring vehicles and drivers comply with all legal regulations. Compliance & Safety: Maintain vehicle files, conduct tachometer checks, and ensure adherence to transport regulations, including VOSA, FORS, and Goods Vehicle Operator Licence requirements. Planning & Coordination: Organise schedules, routes, and loads, ensuring maximum efficiency while maintaining high service levels. Health & Safety: Promote and enforce safety standards, ensuring all incidents, accidents, and near misses are reported and addressed. Training & Development: Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of transport staff. Cost & Performance Monitoring: Oversee fuel consumption, tyre usage, and driving standards to optimize cost efficiency and compliance. Client & Supplier Relations: Handle inbound calls, log jobs, and coordinate with suppliers to ensure smooth operations. Team Support: Provide cover for the Transport Manager, Inbound Pallet Track Manager, and Transport Assistant when necessary. Key Skills & Qualifications: Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced environment. Financial acumen to manage costs and budgets effectively. Good geographical knowledge and understanding of route planning. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage teams. Competency in transport regulations, ideally holding a CPC qualification (National/International).
